Male Anoles are very dominant and territorial. They show their dominance by bobbing their heads and flaring their dewlap. These behaviors are intended to intimidate other Anoles. The loser of the confrontation retreats to a different territory. Male Anoles may even react to their own reflection in a mirror.

Things to remember

Handling
Use caution when handling your pet and remember that all pets may bite or scratch, especially when stressed. Supervise children around pets.
Avoid picking up your Anole by the tail, as it may fall off.
Pets may transmit disease to humans, so be sure to wash your hands before and after handling your pet or cleaning the habitat.

Calcium dust
"Dust" the insects with a calcium supplement twice a week - ask a PetSmart associate for details.

Feeding amounts & frequency
Offer food once daily to every other day. Offer only enough to be consumed by the end of the day.

Water
Anoles will drink from a shallow dish and lick moisture from their skin; mist your pet every other day with warm water. Water bowls should be emptied and refilled daily.

Housing
10-gallon (18-20" tall) or larger terrarium for a single Anole. A larger terrarium is needed if housing multiple animals. Taller enclosures for climbing are preferred. Screened lid if not included with habitat.

Bedding
Use 2-3" (5-8 cm) layer of coconut fiber or bark. Clean out waste weekly and completely change bedding at least once a month.
