Friendly pet snakes

Choosing a pet snake. A large part has to do with the person's personality along with how much space and time you have to devote to the animal. There are some that are a little bit more involved then others where they require more attention or more specifics in their individual care.

If you're starting out with snakes, I usually recommend something that's not going to be too large. And not be too outwardly naturally aggressive.

The Ball Python

For a more calm person or somebody who's mellow my number one suggestion would be a ball python. This is a great starter snake for somebody's who's not too sure how involved they want to be into a snake. It's more for the type of person who doesn't want to always have to be paying attention to their animal and just wants their animal to be there and kind of hang out with them. They are traditionally a very docile snake.

The Rat Snake

This one here is a rat snake, which is slightly larger breed of the corn snake, it's in the same family. They are a very mellow snake. Again, that they prefer to be more of a ground dwelling snake so they, generally, are relatively calm. This fellow here will get about eight feet. Initially they are going to be very inquisitive and once they feel a little bit more calm they will mellow down and kind of find a happy spot.

The Texas King Snake

Also, when you're thinking about getting a pet snake you want to take into account its full grown size. Where the king snakes for instance, stay a nice small size. This here is a Texas King Snake, and he is full grown. Right now I'd say he's about four and a half feet. Um, the largest of the King Snake family getting about 6 maybe 7 feet. King snakes are very very docile snakes. When they're small they're a little bit more active and a little bit more cautious just because they are such a small snake when they first start out.
